Probably the most famous attractions in the area are the two World Heritage sites, Hadrian’s Wall and Durham Cathedral, while Holy Island, a monastery since 870 AD is equally renowned. Also well known are the award winning "Blinking Eye" Millennium Bridge, Newcastle and Angel of the North, Britain’s largest sculpture. Newcastle is also renowned for its nightlife, recently nominated as the sixth best city in the world.
